Here's to making 2016 an absolute banger!!
Bike Morzine owner Russ Paver is lucky enough to spend the winter in the MTB capital of the southern hemisphere - Queenstown, NZ. Check out his recent antics at one of Queenstowns mates races - FernHill Frenzy.
Fernhil Frenzy is old school, much like its creator, Queenstown legend Dave Zee. No Promotion, No social media, No Posters, No Sponsors, only word of mouth and 1 rule - get to the bottom as fast as you can, any trail, any bike, any way.
A crowd of nearly 100 riders made up of Pro's, Punters, DH'ers, XC'ers, BMX'ers Men, Women, Children and a man in a sumo suit, made the 1 hour climb from the top of the Skyline Gondola to the top of Fernhill Loop, the home of many epic Queenstown trails. Once up there organiser Dave Zee split the group into 2 lines of riders, who were instructed to line up their bikes and then swap sides.
3,2,1 Go! 2 lines of 50 screaming riders sprinting towards each other desperately searching/wrestling for their bikes. Once you had located your trusty steed it was point and shoot time - the trail snakes through an open field full of tussocks (sturdy spikey kiwi bush) where hanging off the back and pointing for the tiny hole in the forest was the fastest technique. From here the trail heads down the fast straights and tight switchbacks of the walking track, inside lines were the aim of the game, on the trail, in the shrubs or through the trees - they all count. Once you leave the woods and the harrowing shouts of Eddie Masters chasing you down, its into some rapid pine tree single track, before opening up into the world famous (mini) dream track and hitting small jumps at three times the normal speed. Onto the bottom half of Wynyard Downhill for some wide, dusty and loose berms the perfect place for some seriously sketchy last minute over takes and your done.
Over 100 mountain bikers of all ages, sexes and origins in a car park peaking like Chinese ducks, everybody with "this one overtake" story, a whole load of high fives and fist bumps all washed down by a few cold beers.
Long live the mates race!!

Connor Sandri AKA Woody the Cowboy spent the day filming with our Chalet Videographer Thomas Gaffney Photography over in Les Gets. Les Gets isnt all bikepark berms and tables there are some super tech and rough trails hidden beneath the surfrace, Woody smashes up a rooty "Jurassic Park" into a classic "Le Canyon". Keep an eye out for this boy on the UCI MTB World Cup Circuit, he is only young and with some solid results already to his name he is definitely heading places!

With less than 2 weeks to go until the 2015 summer lift opening of Morzine Le Pleney and Les Gets Bikepark the trail building/maintenance has been bumped up a gear. Despite having an extra 2 weeks until opening for the 2015 season (SuperMorzine and Avoriaz open on the 26th June) the Avroiaz trail crew have been cracking on with some much needed track maintenance and adjusting existing trails here at there!
Super Morzine getting buffed up for the 2015 Season Opening.
Its no secret that we are a big fan of the Avoriaz MTB guys here at BikeMorzine. They have turned the resort around in recent years and really stepped up the trail building and maintenance in the whole area. However nothing is perfect and last years new trail Cap Canaveral (the trail with the huge tabletop) was lacking flow in areas - Avoriaz MTB have taken this feedback and are taking positive steps towards improving this - good work.
Les Linderets is a very tough area to build in with the land being mainly rock based and lacking the quality of soil. There is however some great tracks to be found there, especially if you like technical, rocky and challenging terrain! Great to see Les Linderets getting some love.

The Avoriaz MTB trail crew have made some of the best trails in the Portes Du Soleil in recent years, bear in mind that for Summer 2013 there were no official trails on the Super Morzine hill and coming into summer 2015 it is one of the most popular areas in the PDS! With amazingly flow berms, good size tables and the SuperMorzine Super Booter where Bike Morzine held the 2015 Rip Off Worlds.
Its great to see this development continue into 2015 along with maintaining all the current work, good work Avoriaz MTB - other trail crews take note!

With Morzine 2015 opening dates getting closer than ever, we thought it would be a nice to have a look at some of last years greatest moments (that were caught on go-pro anyway). With an amazing amount of track maintenance and building going on already the 2015 summer season is sure to be a banger! Filmed on SuperMorzine, Le Pleney, Mont Chery, Les Gets, Chatel, Les Crosets, Morgins and Verbier.

With the 2015 lift openings less than 1 month away all areas of Les Portes Du Soleil are pulling out the stops and getting some serious trail maintenance and new trail building underway. So far we have seen Les Gets bike park updating the classic 4X track with some new doubles and step ups, Avoriaz MTB have been putting in some great looking rollers/doubles and showing of their new toys and now Le Pleney are showing us their plans for 2015 summer development!
Good to see the tools are out on the SuperMorzine trails, the Avoriaz MTB team have done a great job the past few years so can't wait to see what they have up their sleeve this year! Those 2 new diggers look sure to help!
Nice to see the end of the Les Gets classic "Chavannes" getting some serious love, here are some new jumps getting built on the 4X track, looks like a good size new double into the woods?
And a new shape to the step up/berm!
