MORZINE ESSENTIAL INFO
The heart of the Worlds Biggest Mountain Bike Area.

MORZINE ESSENTIAL INFO

Morzine is the original, largest and the best mountain bike resort in Europe and arguably the World.
Find out why this is the perfect place for
your next mountain bike holiday below.

WHERE IS MORZINE?

Morzine is an idyllic mountain town nestled at the Northern end of the huge French Alps, sitting almost directly  on the France / Switzerland / Italy border and just 1.5 hours from Geneva. The local area is know as the Haute Savoie region and is famous for its mountains, skiing, cheese, sausage and being one the first areas to open its lifts in the summer to mountain bikers.

TRAVEL

There a 2 main options when travelling to your Morzine summer accommodation. The choice is between Flying and Driving, both have their pros and cons, especially depending on your group size and where you are travelling from.

FLYING

When flying to Morzine, you can fly into Geneva Airport from most major airports and with flight times being as short as 1.5 hours from the UK, it is by far the quickest way to travel to Morzine. Bike Morzine can then organise a transfer from the airport to your Morzine summer accommodation door for just £35 each way, the airport transfer takes 1.5 hours driving each way.

Flying with your bike is relatively stress-free. Pack safely and well protected it into a bike bag or cardboard box and you can prebook it on most flights anywhere from free - £45 each way. You can pre-book space for your bike our airport transfers free of charge. Our Morzine summer accommodation all have garages/bike workshops to build up your bikes on arrival.

We believe this to be the most effective option for smaller groups.

DRIVING

Driving to Morzine can be great for those who live close to Dover/Southern England, those travelling in larger groups and has the huge bonus being able to pack far more kit/bikes into your car than the plane.  You have the choice of either the Euro Tunnel or the Ferry when crossing the channel, both of which are similar prices. The Euro Tunnel takes around 1 hour and the Ferry around 3 hours, Personally we prefer the Ferry as it offers a chance to stretch the legs, get some fresh air and break up the drive.

Driving to Morzine takes around 8-9 hours from Calais Port using the A49 route, expect to pay just over €70 for tolls on this route. Taking alternative routes to avoid the tolls, costs a similar amount in petrol and even more in your valuable holiday time.  Ferry, Fuel & Tolls included, you are looking at roughly £200 each way, travelling from Southern UK to Morzine.

WHATS THE LIFT NETWORK LIKE?

There is often a lot of confusion between Morzine and the Portes du Soleil. To clarify, Morzine one of 9 resorts in the wider Portes du Soleil area, Morzine is without doubt the most popular in the area, particularly in Summer, as it provides a perfect base for any mountain bike holiday, with its unparalleled access to the wider Portes Du Soleil lift network. The Portes Du Soleil lift network consists for Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz, Les Linderets, Chatel, Les Crosets, Torgon, Champery, Morgins. All under one lift pass.

The sheer size of the area, the number of lifts & the variety of the terrain make the Portes Du Soleil the ultimate place for a European mountain bike holiday, people can visit for 10 years and still not ride every single trail, the amount of riding available is simply mind blowing.

TRAIL NETWORK

The Portes du Soleil / Morzine trail network is HUGE and constantly developing/improving. Offering a huge variety of trails and terrain to have every skill level grinning from ear to ear. There are flowy green single track trails, to suit families & beginners, progressive jump tracks to up your skills and learn some new tricks, all the way up to World Championship level, white knuckle, gnarly downhill trails.  There really is something for everyone when it comes to Morzine mountain biking. An unknown secret is the 90km+ of Morzine enduro trails that often goes unridden due to the easily accessible downhill tracks.

If its your first time here or you are looking to explore away from the bikepark and discover some of Morzine's hidden gems, we highly recommend hiring a local Morzine MTB guide.

If you are looking to improve your skills in a fun and safe environment, we highly recommend booking a session with our Morzine MTB Coaches.

LIFT PASSES
Those smart enough to book with Bike Morzine guests can pre-book their lift passes and have them ready waiting at their Morzine Summer Accommodation, saving your valuable holiday time from queuing at the lift office. If you haven't pre-booked your lift passes, head to Le Pleney or Super Morzine lift stations to purchase your pass.

BIKE CHOICE

The huge lift network means you'll do more mountain biking in Morzine over 1 week, than you would a year in the UK. To make the most out of your Morzine MTB holiday, its important to have a mountain bike thats able to tackle the variety of Morzine trails. We recommend a 150mm+  travel modern enduro bike with dual ply tyres as a minimum, anyway up to a full downhill race bike. Over the past few years there has been a huge increase in the number of trail/enduro bikes in the alps, the modern bikes handle the terrain incredibly well with the added bonus of being able to pedal to access some trails hidden away from the bikepark.
