2022 Will Be Morzine Bike Park's Longest Summer Season ever!

The lift opening dates for the Morzine Bike Park for summer 2022 have been officially announced and the great news is that it's the longest summer season ever! Between June and September there are now more days that you can spend having a blast on bikes in the mountains with your mates, and we think that’s pretty rad!

Traditionally the Passportes du Soleil Mountain Bike Festival marks the opening of the bike season in Morzine and is held at the end of June. Whilst this is still officially the case, there are now a number of major lifts across the whole Portes du Soleil that will be open as early as May.

Summer 2022 Morzine Bike Park Lift Opening Dates

Bike Park Les Gets is once again leading by example and will be the first to open its doors to mountain bikers this summer. The Chavannes and Nauchettes side of the Les Gets park will be opening for weekends from the 26th May This will continue until the whole of the Les Gets bike park opens full time from the 17th June.

The lift in Champery will re-open for the summer season on the 29th May and will run every day throughout the summer.

The Pleney is the next major lift to start spinning and will be whisking riders to the top of the infamous mountain every weekend from the 3rd June. It’s weekends only on the Pleney until it opens full time on the 24th June (which is still a little late in our humble/heavily biassed opinion).

The big news for summer 2022 is the extension of the season on the Super Morzine side. In years past the Super Morzine lifts wouldn't open until the very end of June with the Passportes du Soleil festival. However this year Avoriaz MTB have made the decision to open early and we are absolutely stoked about it. This year will be the longest bike season on the Super Morzine side on record! Opening on the 17th June and staying open, every day, all the way through until the 11th September. That's a humongous 87 days of pure tire schralping action on the Super Morzine trails.

The bike parks of Chatel and Morgins will open for summer 2022 beginning with weekends only from the 12th June. From the 24th June they will open full time.

The Lifts In Morzine Bike Park Are Staying Open Later Too

The second bit of great news for summer 2022 is that some of the major lifts are extending their opening at the end of the season too. This means we’ll be able to ride bikes in the Morzine Bike Park with lift access well into September which is fantastic.

Traditionally all the lifts would close on the last Sunday of August and by Monday the town would be deserted and everything would close down until December when the snow begins to fall. This year, the exodus from town will still happen but at least it won't until a little later on.

The wider bike parks will still close for full time operation at the end of August/ early September however some of the major lifts will be open for weekends much later, the last one closing on the 19th September.

Super Morzine will close on the 11th September but will run every day until then. The Pleney will stop running every day on the 3rd September but will open for weekends until the 19th September. This will also be the case with the Chavannes and Nauchettes side of the  Les Gets bike park and the Morgins bike park.

Mont Chery Will Close For World Champs

The only exception to these dates will be that the Mont Chery lift in Les Gets will close between the 24th and 28th August for a very special occasion. This year sees the UCI Downhill World Championships come to Les Gets. This is the biggest race of the season and we are super excited to see the world's fastest racers go head to head on the local trails. The race track is one of the best on the circuit and if last year’s crowd is anything to go by then its going to be a very loud occasion! You can see more on the event in our Les Gets World Champs event guide here

Progress But We’re Not There Yet

We have been calling for an extension to the summer lift opening dates across the Morzine Bike Park for years now and finally it seems progress is happening, albeit in baby steps. The weather from late May through until late October can be absolutely fantastic and it seems criminal to us that the lifts are open for such a short amount of time in the summer months. If the lift queues at the early opening weekends in Les Gets are anything to go by, it's clear there is plenty of demand to get up into the hills on bikes as early as possible. With the popularity of mountain biking sky-rocketing in recent years combined with the sometimes questionable levels of snow in Morzine during the winter, we feel it's essential for the town that the summer season keeps on extending.  Rest assured we will keep putting pressure on the powers that be to extend the Morzine Summer season.
