It's a question we get asked more than almost any other, usually by someone with two browser tabs open and a group chat full of opinions. Both are brilliant. They're twenty minutes apart and share the same lift pass. But they're not the same holiday.
Morzine or Les Gets — which is better for mountain biking?
Les Gets is a great bike park and a lovely town with a lot of machine built riding right on its door step. Plus Mont Chéry hosting one of the Worlds best World Cup races each year. If it was anywhere else in the World it would be an amazing place to base yourself for your summer holiday. However having Morzine just down the road (10 - 15 mins by car) Morzine is the better base — theres a lot more going on both on and offf the bike, and most importantly you are right in the centre of the Portes du Soleil making heading to Chatel, Champery, Switzerland and Avoriaz incredibly easy.
Les Gets is a great option but If you want to explore the whole of the Portes du Soleil, Morzine wins.
What's the riding actually like in Les Gets?
Les Gets splits across three areas. Chavannes is the main chairlift and the heart of it — a mix of green, blue and red machine-built flow and jump trails, and genuinely one of the friendliest places in the Alps to learn. Nauchets is a shorter lift with a lot packed in: blue and red flow, endless berms, and the black Pro Line with big doubles and northshore. Mont Chéry sits across the valley, has hosted the Les Gets World Cup for decades, and is where it gets properly steep — Dans Le Gaz is an epic downhill track and Gets Airline is a huge freeride track.
The short version: Les Gets is groomed, flowy and confidence-building, with a serious end if you want it.
What's the riding like in Morzine?
Morzine side of the valley: Le Pleney was built in 1997, making it one of Europe's first lift-accessed downhill trails, and it's still one of the best — flat out, fast downhill action that attracts the Worlds best riders year on year. NRew for 2026: three new black technical singletracks on Pleney — Woodride, Legal 1.0 and Legal 2.0.
Avoriaz Side: Super Morzine offers a huge variety of flow and jump trails in the open pastures of Zore and Serrasieux. A wide variety of Blue and Red trails alongside some more technical rooty black trails. Stand out trails are: the endless flowy berms of Tutti Frutti, Enduro bike technical flow DA Trail and Downhill rooty action with huge jumps - Hattock
Which is better for beginners?
Honestly? Les Gets, marginally — Chavannes has more consistently graded machine-built green and blue flow, and it's a gentler introduction than Pleney or Super Morzine (just). But the beauty of Morzine is that you can head up Le Pleney and ride over to Les Gets within 15 minutes. Pleney has some great green and blue options as well as the endless blues/greens of Super Morzine . If your group is genuinely mixed, base in Morzine and spend a day or two warming up in Les Gets.
Which has more on the doorstep?
Morzine, comfortably. From a central Morzine base you've got 25 bike-friendly lifts, 6 bike parks and 650km+ of trails across two countries — including Les Gets, Châtel, Avoriaz, Champéry and Morgins. Les Gets is one very good part of that network. Morzine is the middle of it surrounded by epic bike parks.
Morzine is also a far more lively town, theres always something going on. The epic apres spots of Bar Robinson, or Le Tremplin, a huge array of restaurants. And a huge amount to do for anyone in the group who isn't riding; hiking, swimming, tennis, padel, spa days, wild swimming and more.
So which should you book?
We're a Morzine company, so take this with the appropriate pinch of salt — but the honest answer is that most riders get more out of a Morzine base, because you're not really choosing between the two. Les Gets is a lift ride away in one direction, and then Avoriaz and the rest of Les Portes du Soleil are all in the other direction. Morzine is right in the middle of the action and it shows, theres a great scene of riders, families and friends giving the town an awesome vibe in summer.
