Debt Dodging Dining

Eating out and having a few drinks is a key part of any good bike holiday in Morzine, but often racks up to be the most expensive part of the holiday. However, if you know where to look, you can still eat out at quality establishments and drink some crisp cold beers, it just won't cost you an arm and a mortgage to do so!

Some of our favourite low cost/high quality eateries include The food truck at Hotel Dents Blanche. Located just a short roll from the Super Morzine lift on Route de la Plagne the food truck sits in the beer garden and offers superb food at great prices. The cuisine is basic but bloody well done and ranges from burger and chips to homemade pizzas. They do regular budget friendly deals such as two pizzas for 10 euros which is not to be missed. The dents blanche beer garden is also a great place to soak up the afternoon sun with a cold crisp beer.  Hideout hostel also offers an aboslulety banging menu of asian street food dishes with dishes packing serious flavour and starting from just 8euros.

Takeaway is also a great budget friendly option for an evening meal in Morzine. Some of our options are Cuisine22 located just down from the Santa Cruz Showroom on Rue du Bourg and Chez Persil Pizza located along Route de la Plagne towards the Nant. Cusinie22 offers great value cuisine from around the world from noodles to naan breads and pizzas to pasta. Chez Persil offers great pizzas and has a lovely grassy area outside to eat on should you wish. Chez Persil also very often has live music throughout the summer to entertain you whilst you wait.

Travel Tips

Getting to Morzine from the UK, or anywhere in Europe really is super simple and there are two main options for travel. Flying is quick and easy whereas driving takes longer but allows you to bring far more gear with you. Both options, if planned well, can work out really affordable.

With all the main players in low cost air fares operating out of Geneva Airport, its not uncommon to find flights from the UK priced around just £30 each way. For example right now you can book a flight from London Luton to Geneva in July 2023 for just £32 which is superb value. Adding a bike to a flight costs an extra £30 and a bike friendly airport transfer will set you back £58. That's about £120 each way and only 4 hours or so of travelling door to door.

Although the cost of fuel is ridiculous at the moment, driving to Morzine from the UK can still work out as a great value option. If you're travelling as a group and have a vehicle large enough to carry enough people and bikes/gear then driving is a great option. The drive is just over 500 miles from Calais and can be done in around 8 hours. The French toll roads are super smooth and efficient and the drive is very easy to navigate. The tolls add around an extra £80 to the cost each way but the saving in time and fuel is definitely worth the cost.

Ferries from the south coast of the UK can be found for around £35 per vehicle or the Eurotunnel is about £100 each way.

So a ferry crossing, the tolls and a couple of tanks of fuel split between 4 or 5 people works out very affordable!

Bike Maintenance & Spares

One sure fire way to make your Morzine Summer Holiday expensive is by destroying your bike and having to buy loads of parts. You do more riding in a week in the alps than a year in the UK, so it's important that your bike is up to the job. Firstly make sure you give your bike a good service, bolt check and top up on any consumables (tyres, brake pads etc) before you arrive in Morzine. Secondly, make sure you bring some spares, it's not unheard of for people to blow through a new set of brake pads in a day, riding thousands of meters for descents each day makes the odd's on someone slashing a tyre or destroying a wheel very high! You can get most MTB parts you need in Morzine at a premium price but anything specific for your bike (drop outs etc) make sure you bring with you.

Local Deals

We're lucky enough to have amazing partnerships with  the best shops, bars & restaurants in Morzine and as a Bike Morzine guests you receive special treatment and prices in Morzin'es best establishments. Simply show this in any of the stores/bars or restaurants we work with and you’ll receive special discounts on your purchases from locals prices of bike parts, to non-stop happy hour drinks and everything in between.
