Frequently Asked Questions

Bike Morzine has been offering epic Morzine MTB holidays for close to 10 years now and we know just about all there is to know when it comes to Morzine mountain biking and Morzine summer holidays. Our friendly staff are happy to answer all of your questions when it comes to Morzine mountain biking, travelling to Morzine or your Morzine summer accommodation. However we've complied the following frequently asked questions, to put your mind at ease before your epic Morzine MTB holiday.

WHERE IS MORZINE?

Morzine is located in the Haute-Savoie region in South-Eastern France, close the Swiss border. Our Morzine summer accommodation options are all based in the centre of town, close to the Super Morzine & Le Pleney lifts.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT MORZINE?

The Morzine Summer season runs from mid June  to mid September. This relatively short season means that the whole Morzine summer season receives great weather and the Morzine MTB trails are running well from start to finish.
Peak season is throughout July, where the town & lifts are their busiest, due to school holidays and lots of events. We think the best time is mid August - Early September, no lift queues adn the weather is more settled.

See the Morzine Summer Lift Dates here.

DO YOU NEED TO SPEAK FRENCH IN MORZINE?

Morzine is in France and would you believe it, the main spoken language is French. However being a small mountain town that has  thrived off tourism for several decades, the vast majority of Morzine population do speak English. Therefore the ability to speak French is not essential.

However, as you would expect in your own country, please make an effort to speak the local language even if it is just a "Bonjour". This goes a long way with the locals and you might just learn a thing or two!

WHERE IS YOUR MORZINE SUMMER ACCOMMODATION LOCATED?

All of our Morzine Summer accommodation is located close the centre of town and a short walk/ride to all lifts, shops, bars & restaurants. No car is required at our Morzine summer accommodation.

WHAT CURRENCY DO I NEED IN MORZINE?

The local currency in Morzine is Euros, if you have a Euro debit/credit card you'll be fine to pay for everything with that. If your card/account is in £GBP, we would recommend getting cash out from a Bureau de Change or Travel Exchange before leaving the UK, as cash withdrawals & card fee's can add up quickly.

Depending on your budget, whats included in your Morzine mountain bike holiday package & how much you plan on eating/drinking out, will determine how much money you should bring, We would suggest anywhere from €100-€400 for a weeks mountain bike holiday.

CAN I DO A LONG WEEKEND IN MORZINE?

Yep! A lot of our Morzine Mtb Accommodation offers completely flexible check in/check out dates. Meaning you can book a Morzine mtb holiday that suits your availability.

Our Hotels and Hostels are the best option for shorter stays and Most properties require a minimum booking of 2 or 3 nights but if you cant find what you need get in touch with our team and we may be able to cater for a shorter stay.

DO YOU OFFER MORZINE SUMMER ACCOMMODATION FOR ROAD CYCLISTS?

Absolutely! Although we are mountain bikers ourselves, we often have groups of road bikers stay with us at our Morzine Accommodation. Morzine is the perfect place to base your road biking holiday and tackle some of the classic Tour de France cols on our doorstep. Our secure bike storage, bike workshops and  bike washes, lend themselves perfectly to road bikes also.

DO YOU OFFER MORZINE SUMMER ACCOMMODATION FOR FAMILIES?

Of course! Although most of our clients are mountain bikers, some of our Morzine summer holidays are perfect for the whole family looking to enjoy all of the other great Morzine summer activities.

Our chalets are perfect for large families looking for private spacious accommodation with all the comforts and facilities of home and space for the kids to relax in. A home for home if you will!

Our Central Morzine apartments are perfect for smaller families and our Chalets offer spacious and private Morzine family accommodation, with sunny decks and plenty of outdoor space.

WHAT MOUNTAIN BIKE SHOULD I BRING TO MORZINE? MORZINE?

There is such a wide variety of riding in Morzine, there is no hard and fast answer to this. It really does depend on the type of riding you enjoy doing.

However, any  modern enduro bike or downhill bike should be sufficient for Morzine mountain biking. We would recommend a mountain bike with 150+mm of front and rear suspension, dual ply tyres and capable brakes/components. Anything less may result in pricey mechanical errors.

The one thing we will say is that the trails in Morzine are generally speaking longer and rougher than the trails you may be used to so make sure your brakes and suspension are up to the task.

WHAT MORZINE LIFT PASS DO I NEED?

Morzine is the heart of the larger lift network called "Les Portes du Soleil". This lift network consists of nearly 30 lifts, connecting 9 different bike parks, over France and Switzerland. This whole area comes under one single lift pass, which can be purchased before your Bike Morzine holiday and waiting for you during check-in saving you valuable holiday time.

Driving to your Morzine mountain biking holiday from the UK is another great option for those who live in Southern England and/or those travelling in larger groups. Plus this gives you great flexibility to drive to nearby resorts & pack far more kit/bikes into your car than the plane.  Choose between  Euro Tunnel or the Ferry when crossing the channel, both of which are similar prices.

Driving to your Morzine MTB accommodation takes around 8-10 hours from Calais using the A49 route, expect to pay just over €70 in tolls on this route. Taking alternative routes to avoid the tolls, costs a similar amount in fuel and even more in your valuable holiday time.  Ferry, fuel & tolls included, you are looking at roughly £200 each way, travelling from Southern UK to Morzine.
